Today is the 1st of April 2015. It is also a watershed day for Malaysians, and no, it’s not because of April fool.
It’s because…. finally, the GST is here! Finally, Kindle Malaysia has registered for GST Account No: 001844215808
It’s a day that is dreaded, cursed and protested by Malaysians all over the country. I have a friend who secretly hopes that when he wakes up tomorrow, the GST implementation will be scrapped because today is an April fool! Cute guy.
But no matter how much you like or dislike it, it finally comes. And GST is here to stay for foreseeable future.
In compliance with the government policy, we at kindlemalaysia.com are also collecting the GST on government’s behalf. A lot of people are saying that price will go up after GST. But this is not strictly true. For us at least, our price doesn’t go up, we are just collecting the tax on government’s behalf. The difference here is not merely semantics, because it’s the government that is at fault here, not the merchant :).
A lot of unscrupulous merchants say that the listing price will remain constant before and after GST, but then what is left unsaid is the GST will be there only when you checkout, in direct contradiction with the GST directives from Custom Malaysia.
By then you have already handed them your credit card information.
And some will require you to pay the GST yourself via Postman when the goods arrive at your doorstep. All these are unwelcome surprises.
We prefer to be transparent and honest in pricing, we prefer that what you see on our website is what you pay. No hidden cost. No nasty surprises. Every single cost is included, you don’t have to pay extra for shipping fees, GST, warranty support, opening a US Amazon account, and so on, and so on.
We want our customers to have the WOW moment when they open up their box. WOW, the thing just works, and I can just download free ebooks from Amazon! WOW, I can just buy kindle ebooks after I get my Amazon gift card from kindlemalaysia.com!
No doubt, there will be no WOW moment anymore– no matter how amazing the aftward experience is– if upon checkout, you found that an additional 6% is added surreptitiously to your payment, or if the postman demanded GST payment for your kindle.
